The Songbird Canary Network has recently been announced by Flare Networks as a precursor to the launch of the Flare main net. Let's take a second to define what a canary network is: The Canary Network is a blockchain network which mirrors the main net code base and holds real value. This differs from a traditional test network in that there are no faucets (obtaining tokens for free to use for testing) and sending 100 songbird tokens to an address on the network means real dollars are at stake.
The Songbird Network mirrors the use case of the Kusama Canary Network. Kusama is Polkadot's canary and has been deemed the "wild cousin" of the network. It is a chain where developers can deploy their newest technologies with slightly less risk and cost before being deployed on Kusama.
Aureus Ox believes the launch of a Canary Network is a significant step towards institutional adoption on the main net. Songbird allows for the opportunity to test the Flare blockchain codebase in real world situations. This includes potential real world exploits and security vulnerabilities not caught by a third party auditing team. Institutions will likely have more trust investing in a blockchain vetted in this way.
Aureus Ox currently runs an XRPL validator, we plan to utilize this node to run a validator on Songbird as well as Flare upon launch. Songbird provides us the opportunity to test out our own infrastructure and deploy production smart contracts. We will continue to refine our price submissions for our signal provider algorithm through Songbird as well as fix any unrealized bugs. Overall, we think Songbird is a fantastic opportunity to create stability for the launch of the Flare Network and will be taking full advantage at Aureus Ox.
